Vatican confirms 1st COVID-19 case
One Vatican official was put into a protective quarantine after a priest from France’s Catholic church in Rome tested positive for the virus. The official isn’t showing symptoms of COVID-19 disease but lives in the same church as the infected priest.

First confirmed cases in Italy
On 31 January, the first two cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Rome. A Chinese couple, originally from Wuhan, China, arrived in Italy on January 23 via Milan Malpensa Airport, went straight from the airport to Verona, then to Parma, arriving in Rome on Tuesday, January 28. The next afternoon, they started coughing; by evening, the man had a fever and the couple was brought to Lazzaro Spallanzani National Institute for Infectious Diseases where they were tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and were hospitalised.

Russian protection measures
In Russia, only self-quarantine applies so far, but under supervision. Occasionally the police knock on the door to check if they are at home. Breaking the quarantine rules is punished with a fine, if you break the quarantine and infect someone, it can give 1 year in prison, if the infected person dies 5 years in prison.

An attendee at a conference where Trump and Pence spoke tests positive
A person who attended a conservative conference where President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence spoke last week has tested positive for the coronavirus, according to the conference’s host. The American Conservative Union, which hosts the annual Conservative Political Action Conference outside Washington, said the attendee was exposed to the virus before the four-day event and tested positive for it on Saturday.
